Solomon Amendment

The Solomon Amendment is a federal law that allows military recruiters to request information about registered students, who are 17 and older, and who have not filed any FERPA restrictions.

The Department of Education has determined the Solomon Amendment supersedes most elements of FERPA. An institution is therefore obligated to release information included in the list of “student recruiting information,” which may or may not match UL Lafayette’s FERPA directory information list.

In accordance with this federal law, UL Lafayette will release information for military recruitment purposes. Information released will pertain to registered students from either the current or most previous semester.
