Open to instrumentalists on any band instrument, piano, or guitar, this program focuses on improvisation, modern performance, arranging, and recording, giving you the creative and practical skills needed to thrive in jazz, rock, and pop music.

What You'll Study
As a music major with a concentration in jazz, you'll take courses within the following categories, as well as ensemble participation.
- Jazz improvisation
- Ensemble participation—minimum of eight jazz ensemble/ combo credits
- Music and jazz theory
- History of jazz
- Jazz and commercial arranging
- Technology and industry training
- Audio recording techniques
- Plus, additional electives in music industry topics and world music literature

Capstone Experience
- Senior Recital featuring jazz repertoire and improvisation
- Complete degree plan through 120–132 credits, including at least 45 upper-level hours
Performance Experience
Jazz students perform regularly in Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combos, with opportunities to lead small groups, solo, and learn the art of ensemble collaboration. These ensembles perform multiple times each semester in campus venues and community events.

Audition & Scholarship Info
