At UL Lafayette, instrumentalists have countless opportunities to perform, connect, and thrive through our wide range of ensembles. Whether you’re majoring in music or simply want to keep playing throughout college, you’ll find a place to grow as a performer, explore new repertoire, and collaborate with outstanding peers and faculty.

From classical to contemporary, large ensembles to chamber groups, each experience helps you refine your technique, expand your musicianship, and stay connected to your passion.

Ensembles for All Musicians

Our instrumental ensembles are open to students from any major, with most courses available for academic credit. Participation is based on audition or instructor approval.

Wind Ensemble

Our premier concert organization, performing advanced wind repertoire and collaborating with guest composers and soloists. Open to top-level woodwind, brass, and percussion performers by audition.

Concert Band

A large, inclusive ensemble performing classic and contemporary wind literature. Designed for both music majors and non-majors who want to continue playing in a supportive, high-level setting. No audition required—just register and play.

Flute Choir

A vibrant chamber group exploring repertoire for multiple flutes, from classical to contemporary works. Open to all flute players by instructor approval, with opportunities to develop ensemble precision and expressive depth.

Horn Choir

This ensemble brings together horn players for rich, resonant performances of traditional and modern works. Great for developing section playing, balance, and chamber ensemble skills. Open by instructor approval.

Trumpet Choir

A focused ensemble dedicated to exploring the versatility and brilliance of the trumpet through group performance. Students refine tone, blend, and ensemble technique in a collaborative setting. Open to all trumpet students by instructor approval.

Symphony Orchestra

A full orchestral ensemble performing classical masterworks, opera collaborations, and new compositions. Open by audition to string, wind, brass, and percussion players.

Jazz Ensemble & Combos

High-energy performance groups focused on traditional and modern jazz styles. Open to instrumentalists and rhythm section players interested in improvisation and jazz theory.

Brass Ensembles

Chamber ensemble dedicated to the art of brass performance. Repertoire spans classical, jazz, and contemporary works.

String Ensembles

Small chamber groups offering string players intimate performance experiences and personalized coaching.

Percussion Ensemble

Explore diverse percussion literature, techniques, and ensemble configurations in this dynamic group.

Traditional Music Ensemble

Celebrate Louisiana’s rich musical heritage through Cajun, Creole, Zydeco, and Bluegrass traditions. Open to vocalists and instrumentalists interested in roots-based performance and cultural storytelling. No prior experience required—just a love of folk music and a willingness to learn.

Auditions for most instrumental ensembles take place at the beginning of each semester. Some chamber groups are open by instructor approval.
