Music for the Community

Sharing music. Enriching lives. Building connections.

The School of Music at UL Lafayette is deeply committed to serving the broader community through performances, education, and cultural engagement. Our faculty, students, and ensembles regularly participate in outreach activities that connect the power of music with people of all ages and backgrounds throughout Lafayette and the greater Acadiana region.

Bringing Music to the Community

We believe music is for everyone, and we’re proud to bring it beyond the concert hall through:

  • High‑quality piano instruction to the broader community through the UL Lafayette Piano Institute
  • Educational performances in local schools
  • Collaborations with community ensembles and cultural organizations
  • Workshops and masterclasses for K–12 students and local musicians
  • Pre-college and summer programs that inspire the next generation of performers
  • Performances at community festivals, civic events, and public celebrations
  • Service-based student initiatives that use music to give back

Ensemble Outreach

Our ensembles frequently perform in schools and public venues, offering free or low-cost concerts that engage and inspire:

  • Pride of Acadiana Marching Band performs at local and regional events
  • Opera Theater tours productions to area schools and student groups
  • Jazz, Choir, and Traditional Music ensembles appear at festivals, community centers, and cultural gatherings

Partnerships & Impact

The School of Music values long-standing partnerships with organizations such as:

  • Acadiana Symphony Orchestra
  • Lafayette Parish and regional school systems
  • Downtown Alive! and Festival International
  • Local churches, retirement communities, and civic groups

These collaborations enhance the cultural life of our region while giving students real-world performance and leadership experience.
