Where I'm From

I came to UL Lafayette to stay close to home in Abbeville, La.

Where I Am

I am a senior in the accounting program, and I work with the Small Business Development Center.

Where I'm Going

I am going to start my own business where I will be able to manage the finances.

Jose Pedroza has always been interested in business and learning why businesses are successful. As an accounting major, he is learning about the inner workings of companies and how to apply those successful practices.

“When I start my own business, I want to be able to manage the finances and not rely on anyone else,” he said. “I also enjoy helping people and want to be able to offer them solid financial advice.”

The accounting program requires students to take some classes outside the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration, which Jose has found valuable.

“I believe the structure of the program helps students become well-rounded,” he said. “My freshman year, I took psychology and sociology. I found these two courses very beneficial because they helped expand my horizons about people and how they behave.

“These will be important to me in the business world because they have given me a method to develop a deeper understanding of my future clients, allowing me to serve them better,” he said.

Jose is also preparing for his future by working on a grant that complements both his major in accounting and his minor in Spanish. With the Small Business Development Center, his attention is on Hispanic community outreach.

One of the best outcomes from his time at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, according to Jose, is “discovering what you are truly capable of doing if you set your mind to it.”

“With the level of high expectations and accountability that are set in this program, I know that when I graduate I will be well prepared,” he said.
