Jasmine Broussard, Syed Jasim Reza Ali to reign as Homecoming 2024 queen, king

Jasmine Ty’shae Broussard and Syed Jasim Reza Ali will reign as queen and king of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s 2024 Homecoming.

Broussard, Ali and the eight other members of the Homecoming Court will be presented during halftime of the Homecoming game. The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will face the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Cajun Field at Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium.

Any registered student organization or athletic team could submit nominations for the court. A panel of alumni volunteers and student leaders interviewed applicants and assigned scores to each.

The 10 nominees with the highest scores became members of the court. The highest-scoring female and male applicants were Broussard and Ali.

Jasmine Ty’shae Broussard is a senior from Kaplan, La., majoring in management. She was nominated by Delta Sigma Pi, a co-ed professional fraternity for students pursuing business careers.

Broussard is the senior vice president of Delta Sigma Pi. She has served as the director of community service and public relations for the Black Women Leadership Association, a mentor for the Office of Orientation’s SOUL Camp and an ambassador for Infinity Dance Group, a hip-hop dance group at the University. She received the Black Student Achievement Award at Honors Convocation and has completed more than 300 hours of community service.

Broussard is the daughter of Janell and Kevin Broussard.

Syed Jasim Reza Ali is a senior from Lafayette, majoring in mechanical engineering. He was nominated by the Student Government Association, where he currently serves as vice president. Ali represented the College of Engineering as president and senator and served as his freshman class president. Ali has been president of Sigma Chi fraternity. He served as an orientation leader for SOUL Camp, a research apprentice and ambassador for the College of Engineering and a member of the Chamber Singers. He is the recipient of the Outstanding Freshman, Outstanding Sophomore and Outstanding Junior awards. He served as the Conference Vice Chief of Engagement for the 2024 National Order of the Arrow Conference

Ali is the son of Dr. Syed Atif Ali and Faryal Atif.

Here’s a look at the remaining 2024 Homecoming Court members.

Seth Benton is a senior from Alexandria, La., majoring in strategic communications. He was nominated by Delta Tau Delta Fraternity where he has been chapter president and director of finance. Benton served as vice president of recruitment for the Interfraternity Council and was the recipient of the Unsung Hero Award at the 2024 Greek Awards Ceremony. He is an intern with the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership.

He is the son of Heather and Larry Benton.

Seth Duet is a senior from Thibodaux, La., majoring in chemistry. Duet was nominated by Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, where he has served as president, vice president and ritualist. He has served as president of the Order of Omega Greek honor society, a Presidential Student Ambassador and a member of the University Program Center’s cultural connections board. Duet was named the 2023-2024 Interfraternity Council Member of the Year and awarded recognition by the 1898 Society.

He is the son of Lance and Melissa Duet.

Lindsey Renee’ Duhon is a senior from Maurice, La., majoring in speech pathology and audiology. She was nominated by Delight Ministries, where she serves as the worship leader. Duhon has been a member of Tri Sigma and served as vice president of harm reduction. She received Tri Sigma’s Outstanding Officer award and foundation scholarship.

She is the daughter of Tesha and Gabe Duhon.

Terriona Hopkins is a junior from Lake Charles, majoring in kinesiology. She was nominated by the Student Orientation Staff, where she served as an orientation leader. She volunteered for the Louisiana State Board of Physical Therapy. Hopkins received Miss UL Lafayette People’s Choice Award 2024.

She is the daughter of Jhernice Frank and Terron Hopkins.

Talik Johnson is a junior from Shreveport, majoring in chemical engineering. Johnson was nominated by the Student Orientation Staff, where he served on the leadership team. He has served as the chair of the University Program Center’s Student Activities Board, director of training and service for The Big Event and SGA senator for the College of Engineering. Johnson has also been the political action chair of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

He is the son of Tai and Leonard Johnson.

Kelsey Marie Latiolais is a senior from Lafayette, majoring in human development and family science. She was nominated by the National Council on Family Relations, where she served as president. She has been a member of the University Program Center Student Activities Board, a UL Lafayette Honor’s Ambassador, a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and a member of Delta Alpha Pi Honor Society.

She is the daughter of Jana and Jeff Latiolais.

Brooklyn Alaina Pearson is a junior from Baton Rouge, majoring in finance. Pearson was nominated by Alpha Omicron Pi, where she served as the director of finance. She has served as a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the Order of Omega and the Freshman Honors Program Board.

She is the daughter of Danielle and Benjamin Pearson.

Jordan Smith is a senior general studies major from New Orleans. Smith was nominated by the Black Student Union, where he served as president. He has been a member of the 2024 Student Orientation Staff, a Student Ambassador for Undergraduate Admissions, and a mentor for the Residence Hall Association’s Students Activating United Community Experiences (SAUCE) Leadership Conference. Jordan is the recipient of the Fred and Ola Prejean Scholarship.

He is the son of Judith Smith and the late Raymond Francois.
