Where I'm From

New Iberia, Louisiana.

Where I Am

Currently pursuing an MBA in healthcare administration while working as a support coordinator.

Where I'm Going

I plan to seek a leadership role after graduation, and eventually in Economics.

Edliyah Conner’s passion for pursuing higher education stems from her upbringing.

As a first-generation college graduate, Edliyah received an associate degree in general studies from South Louisiana Community College. She then transferred to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and pursued an undergraduate degree in psychology as a single mother.

“Even while having 3 children during my undergraduate studies, I was determined to reach the end,” she shared. Now, Edliyah is working towards obtaining her Master of Business Administration in Healthcare Administration.

Throughout her undergraduate studies, Edliyah was a part of UL Lafayette’s NAACP chapter.

“During my time at UL Lafayette, I was a member of NAACP. Although the events were fun, I was able to serve a greater purpose and serve the community.”

She recalls the impact of Dr. Yang and Dr. Lin on research projects. “These opportunities have allowed me to work with peers outside of a classroom setting and look at research from a new perspective,” she said.

Edliyah is currently a full-time support coordinator. She believes the MBA healthcare administration program is guiding her in the right career path.

“UL Lafayette has been very supportive in reaching out for career opportunities and many different fellowships and internship opportunities. Different events such as job fairs and etiquette banquets have allowed me to meet with different companies and converse with individuals representing these companies.”

When asked about what positive influences the University creates, she said, “The culture cannot be compared. The professors are always helpful and friendly. I have always felt safe on campus, even at night.”

In the future, Edliyah plans to seek a leadership role after graduation and pursue a Ph.D. in Economics.
