Dr. Lisa Broussard, dean of the College of Nursing & Health Sciences at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, has been named the 2025 Nightingale Nursing School Administrator of the Year by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation.
Broussard was recognized during a ceremony hosted by the foundation, which advances and supports professional nurses through research and education. It is the philanthropic arm of the Louisiana State Nurses Association, which fosters professional nursing practice standards for registered nurses and is an advocate for quality health care.
The Nightingale Nursing School Administrator of the Year award is named for Florence Nightingale, who is widely considered the founder of modern nursing.
Earning the award hinges on success in a range of areas, including vision and leadership, an institution or program’s achievements and record of longstanding success, and community outreach and involvement.
Broussard has been integral in the growth of UL Lafayette’s College of Nursing & Health Sciences – which is the primary creator of the region’s health care workforce – for many years and in many roles and capacities.
She joined the University as an instructor in 1992, becoming an assistant professor, an associate professor, a full professor, a department head, and an associate dean. She was named interim dean in 2022 before being named dean last July.
During her time at the University, Broussard has played a key role in many administrative initiatives and achievements. Those include successful accreditation efforts, program and curriculum development, strategic planning, fundraising and coordinating industry partnerships. She has also been integral in development of the college’s Health Sciences Campus.
“Any sort of recognition is always so rewarding but my belief is that individual recognition is rarely all about a single person,” Broussard said of her selection as the Nightingale Nursing School Administrator of the Year.
“Our faculty and staff members are the ones whose dedication and expertise ensures that our graduates have the knowledge and training needed to become exceptional nurses with careers defined by service and leadership that helps others and advances health care,” she added.
