Charlotte Wharton, a member of the Ragin’ Cajun WaterSki Team, won the overall championship at the Junior Masters Water Ski Tournament.

The tournament took place May 24-26 on Robin Lake at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

Wharton, 18, a sophomore finance major, competed for Great Britain.

She placed first in the jump event, fourth in the slalom event, and sixth in the trick event, which propelled her to the top placement in the overall category.

Other Ragin’ Cajun WaterSki Team members who competed at the competition include Lisa Francke, a senior from Sweden, and Dane Mechler, an incoming freshman from Cincinnati.

Alumni Tom Asher, Will Asher, Claudio Koestenberger and Felipe Miranda also participated in the tournament.

The Masters Water Ski and Wakeboard Tournament began in 1959. The Junior Masters portion of the event has taken place for 21 years.

The Masters tournament is the most prestigious water ski competition in the world, according to information on its website at masterswaterski.com.

The competition featured teams from the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, Peru, Portugal and other nations.

This isn’t Wharton’s first big splash in international competition.

She won the gold medal in the girl’s jump competition at the Junior World Championships, which took place Feb. 20-24 in Mulwala, Australia.  She also claimed a bronze medal in the overall competition at the Junior World Championships.
