The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks with a ceremony honoring those who lost their lives and remembering two University alumni who were among them.
The ceremony will begin at 9:11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center, 600 E. St. Mary Blvd.
Siew-Nya Ang, a 1988 graduate, was working on the 95th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower when she was killed. Robert Hymel, a 1969 graduate and decorated Vietnam War veteran, died at the Pentagon, where he worked as a civilian.
The campus 9/11 Memorial features a shard of limestone recovered from the Pentagon wreckage. It honors the casualties, survivors and heroes of the attacks.
The ceremony will include the presentation of colors by the UL Lafayette Army ROTC Color Guard, a moment of silence, remembrances of Ang and Hymel and the playing of “Taps.”
The memorial is hosted by the UL Lafayette Student Veterans Association and the Office of Veteran & Military Student Services. The Scott Fire Department will also participate.
