The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is among the top 310 national universities cited in U.S. News and World Report’s 2017 edition of “Best Colleges.”

The annual guidebook for prospective college students was released Tuesday.

National universities emphasize research and offer bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs. U.S. News and World Report’s best national universities include 189 public, 114 private and seven for-profit institutions, based on the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

The 2017 edition of “Best Colleges” has data on more than 1,800 colleges and universities in the United States. School profiles provide specifics on academic life, financial aid, and student body makeup.

The guide also has rankings for 1,374 schools, in a range of categories.

UL Lafayette is ranked in several of them. Those categories are: high school counselor rankings, (tied for No. 220), undergraduate business programs (tied for No. 283), engineering programs at schools whose highest degree is a doctorate (tied for No. 193), and best online graduate education programs (tied for No. 153).

The University was also cited for its online bachelor’s programs and online graduate nursing program.

In August, the Princeton Review named UL Lafayette as one of the nation’s best 381 colleges for undergraduate education.
