University begins partnership with Bossier Parish Community College

Engineering students who transfer to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette from Bossier Parish Community College will retain all credit hours as part of a partnership between the two schools.

Students who earn an associate’s degree from BPCC can enroll at UL Lafayette in one of the College of Engineering’s five programs as a junior upon transferring as part of the agreement, which was signed recently by representatives of both schools.

Students who transfer to UL Lafayette from BPCC prior to receiving an associate's degree also will retain their credits.

Credit hours accrued at the community college will go toward degrees in any of the University’s five engineering programs — chemical, civil, electrical and computer, mechanical, or petroleum engineering.

"This agreement will foster economic development in Louisiana by helping to increase the number of well-prepared engineering graduates who can make an immediate contribution to new or expanding industries,” said Dr. Terry Chambers, associate dean of the UL Lafayette College of Engineering.

Chambers, who is a member of the advisory board for the community college’s pre-engineering program, serves as a co-advisor for students who will transfer to UL Lafayette.

“We are thrilled that BPCC provides Ph.D.-qualified engineering faculty, who use the same textbooks and syllabi that we do, and who teach to the same high standards that we do,” Chambers said.
