The University of Louisiana at Lafayette will open Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014. All classes and operations will resume.

If a student, staff or faculty member is commuting from an outlying area with difficulty to travel tomorrow, we suggest you contact the appropriate University official. Students who are unable to return to class on Thursday should contact their instructor(s) or the Dean of Students Office at deanofstudents@louisiana.edu or (337) 482-6276. Faculty and staff members who are unable to return to work on Thursday should contact their immediate supervisor.

For official updates, monitor the University's hotline 482-2222, official University social media, or the University website.

During winter weather conditions, DOTD suggests for motorists to follow these five safety tips:

  1. Drive slowly, carefully, and avoid driving while distracted
  2. Allow for extra driving time
  3. Reduce speeds when visibility is low
  4. Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles
  5. Look out for black ice---a thin, transparent layer of ice accumulation that can be visually hard to detect on bridges, overpasses, off-ramps and in shady spots

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information.
