The UL Lafayette Panhellenic Council has successfully completed Fall Formal Recruitment with more than 250 women participating. Approximately 200 of them joined one of the five National Panhellenic Conference Sororities.

“ Recruitment went really well and there were so many awesome girls that participated. These women will bring their many talents to the UL Lafayette Greek community and we are excited about the things they will do during their time here at UL Lafayette,” said Sigma Sigma Sigma Vice-President Amber Vegas of Cut Off, La.

Recruitment, also known as Rush Week, began Aug. 16 and concluded with Bid Day at the end of the week. Participating freshman and upperclassmen had the opportunity during the week to meet with their chosen sororities. If they were chosen for a sorority, they received a bid and met with officers and other sorority members on Sorority Row.

This well-rounded group of new members represent a array of academic majors and interests, including music, engineering, biology/pre-med, nursing and education.

“ There are so many amazing women that participated in Sorority Recruitment this year. This group is the largest in many years,” said Roquee Forson, assistant dean of students, sorority advisor. “These new members join the ranks of other women who have created a legacy of leadership, academic excellence and volunteerism in the UL Lafayette Greek Community.”

Throughout the week, these women attended events that allowed them to learn about the various chapters’ values, community involvement and outreach, as well as Greek life in general. “The experience also gave the women a glance at each chapter’s inner dynamic,” said Forson.

“ In just a few days, I was able to meet lots of wonderful people and engage in many new activities. I cannot wait to see what kinds of great experiences I will have in the next four years,” said new Kappa Delta member Jillian Duhon of Jennings.

UL Lafayette Panhellenic Sororities are involved many philanthropy and community service projects such as St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Prevent Child Abuse America, Children’s Miracle Network, Faith House of Acadiana and many others. In 2009, Panhellenic Sorority Women donated almost $120,000 and over 8,000 hours in community service.

“ We are very proud of the impact they make in the Lafayette community,” said Forson.
