A concert by Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys on Friday night in Angelle Hall isn’t the band’s only gig on campus this week.
The band will perform a set of their own Cajun French music, as well as with the UL Lafayette Symphony Orchestra and the UL Lafayette Traditional Music Ensemble. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 in Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium in Angelle Hall.
This week, band members also are offering assistance with a variety of classes and subjects that include: music business, commercial arranging, beginning fiddle and Cajun and zydeco history.
They also will speak to music majors and students in music professor Dr. Mark DeWitt’s music history class, he said.
“Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys are part of Cajun music history, and have produced a lot of good music over the years. They have also toured all over, and gained tons of music business experience they can impart to our students,” said DeWitt, the Dr. Tommy Comeaux Endowed Chair in Traditional Music.
The band, which was founded in 1988, has recorded 13 albums, received four Grammy nominations and toured internationally.
The public is invited to attend the concert.
General admission tickets for the concert will go on sale at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Doors open at 7 p.m. There will be no advance ticket sales.
