The UL Lafayette Department of Performing Arts presents State of LA Danse Nov. 20-22, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 23 at 2 p.m. All performances will be at the Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium at Angelle Hall on the UL Lafayette campus.
Department of Performing Arts alumni choreographers Marie Broussard, Kristi Carr, Lacey LeBlanc and Anthony Whitehurst join resident faculty artist Kenneth L. Jenkins to premiere dances especially commissioned for the UL Lafayette dancers.
Assistant Professor of Dance Marie Broussard premieres a classical ballet Grande Tarantelle set to the rousing score by the same name composed by Eugene List. Working in the modern dance genre, UL Lafayette Dance Instructor Kristi Carr and Lafayette Dance Teacher Lacey LeBlanc have created new dances to contemporary music sources as diverse as Imogen Heap, Sia, Rachel Yamagata, Emily Wells and Eluvium. Anthony Whitehurst returns from New York City with dance partner Kristen Schifferdecker to premiere a work created for UL Lafayette dancers and to perform in two other dances. Whitehurst and Schifferdecker are co-artistic directors of New York based Red Novae movement group. Chambers of Ourselves is a new dance choreographed by resident faculty artist Kenneth L Jenkins that is set to a score by Anthony Joseph Lanman. Department of Performing Arts recent graduates Matthew Couvillon, Melissa Musson, and Teri Wyble will also be performing in the program.
Tickets for State of LA Danse are only available at Angelle Hall prior to each performance. Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for UL Lafayette alumni, senior citizens, children and students. UL Lafayette faculty, staff and students with a valid ID are admitted free of charge.
