The UL Lafayette Sport Shooting Team nailed third place at the Association of College Unions International Clay Targets Tournament.
Almost 70 colleges and universities participated in the event from March 25-30 in San Antonio. UL Lafayette competed against 42 schools in the Division III category, which was won by Hillsdale College. The runner-up was Schreiner University.
The UL Lafayette team includes: Josh Baudoin, Franklin; Thomas Dailey, Lafayette; Dolzie Dupuis, Kaplan; Shawn Dupuis, Kaplan; Kylin Fernandez, Lafayette; Andrew Gauthier, Lafayette; Bach Holbert, Lafayette; Selleck Leblanc, Breaux Bridge and Josh Raley, Gretna.
Top individual performers included Dozie Dupuis, who placed sixth in the sporting clays, and Josh Raley, who was 12th in American skeet. More than 400 participants competed in each event.
Tournament events all involve some form of skeet-style shooting. Competitors use shotguns in attempts to hit small, clay discs that are catapulted into the air from several types of devices. The events differ based on factors such as the location of launch points, number of discs launched simultaneously or size of the discs.
Sport shooting is a club sport, which are organizations formed to boost interest in a particular recreational activity that aren’t sanctioned by the NCAA.
