South Louisiana Community College and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette signed an agreement recently that allows full-time employees and their dependents to further their education at a discounted rate.

Effective this semester, employees of SLCC as well as their legal spouses and dependent children may attend UL Lafayette for the same tuition and fee rate offered to UL Lafayette employees, their spouses, and dependents. Likewise, UL Lafayette employees, legal spouses, and dependent children may do the same at SLCC.

“This is a great example of how Acadiana’s two institutions of higher education work well together,” said Dr. Natalie Harder, SLCC chancellor. “We’re both in the business of education and this agreement is an investment in faculty and staff at both institutions.”

For employees, the discounted rate applies to undergraduate and master’s level courses and programs for which regular tuition is charged. Doctorate level programs at UL Lafayette will be considered on a per-program basis with the University offering tuition discounts to at least one eligible employee in each of its Educational Leadership cohorts.

UL Lafayette President Dr. Joseph Savoie said SLCC has been an excellent community partner “and we are continually seeking ways to expand our partnership. We are excited to add this new benefit for one of our most valuable assets, our employees.”

For the spouses and dependents, the discount applies to undergraduate programs and program for which regular tuition is charged.

Full-time employees may register for up to six credit hours per semester while there is no limit on the number of credit hours enrolled per semester for dependent students.
