Honors students at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette competed against teams from four Louisiana and Texas schools during a regional quiz bowl tournament that was held on campus.
Rice beat Texas A&M in the finals of the competition on March 22. Tulane placed third, Louisiana Tech took fourth and UL Lafayette was fifth.
The quiz bowl competition consisted of teams of four students who answered general knowledge questions during timed rounds.
The week before the regional competition, the University’s quiz bowl team won a statewide tournament held in conjunction with the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Conference. The statewide event was held March 14 and 15 at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Teams from five other schools participated in the statewide contest. They were: Delgado Community College, LSU-Shreveport, Nicholls State, ULM and the University of New Orleans.
UL Lafayette quiz bowl team members who claimed the state trophy and competed in the regional event are: Zachary Comeaux, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; Thomas Credeur, a senior majoring in mathematics; Dominic Lloyd, a freshman majoring in finance; and Tyler Quebedeaux, a junior majoring in political science and history.
Eight other UL Lafayette students participate in quiz bowl activities.
Four of them compete as a team. Those students are: Aurore Hamilton, a junior majoring in political science; Joshua Lovera, a sophomore majoring in biology; Kristopher Meche, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering; and Henry Robillard, a sophomore majoring in psychology.
Four other students play recreationally at quiz bowl team meetings. They are: Jorge Belgodere, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; William Benezech, a freshman majoring in physics; Khang Mai, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; and James Mallory, a junior majoring in computer engineering.
