Nationally known rhetoric scholar Dr. M. J. Braun, Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, is this year's UL Lafayette Rhetoric Symposium speaker. The public is welcome to attend Rhetoric Symposium events at no charge.
Dr. Braun earned her Ph.D. at the University of Arizona and has published in such venues as the Journal of Advanced Composition. She is co-editor of a new book on the culture of fear, and a forthcoming special issue of Writing Program Administration. She will present cutting edge research on the tensions between propaganda and argument, a timely event during this year's Presidential campaign.
During her residency, Dr. Braun will be giving two lectures:
• Thursday, October 23, 3:30 pm. “Teaching Argument in the Age of Total Propaganda” in Griffin Hall, room 315; and
• Friday, October 24, 10 am: “The Rhetorical Analysis of Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (Or How to Debunk Election Propaganda)” in Moody Hall, room 103.
