Men's Soccer Club vies for spot in national tourney

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Men’s Soccer Club will compete against 11 other college teams for a berth in the club sport’s national championship tournament.

UL Lafayette was one of 12 schools that received a bid to the National Intramural and Recreational Sport Association’s regional tournament from Nov. 1-3 in San Marcos, Texas.

The others teams competing in the 2013 Region IV South Tournament
are: Texas State, Texas A&M, the University of Texas, Texas Christian University, Rice, LSU, Lone Star College-Cy Fair, Texas Tech, the University of Texas at San Antonio, North Texas and Baylor.

The winner of the regional tournament will receive a berth in the NIRSA’s national soccer championships will take place from Nov. 21-23 in Phoenix, Ariz.

UL Lafayette and LSU are the only two schools from Louisiana that earned a chance to play in the regional tournament.

UL Lafayette finished second in the Louisiana Conference of the NIRSA’s Texas Collegiate Soccer League’s, with an overall record of 5-3 that included a 4-1 mark in conference play.

LSU finished first, with an overall record of 6-2, and 5-0 in the conference.

Other schools in the Louisiana Conference include: Grambling, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Texas A&M-Texarkana and Louisiana Tech.
