The Art Says Louisiana: A Benefit For The Beausoleil Louisiana Solar Home

Published

An art exhibit and silent auction benefiting the BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home will close Saturday, Nov. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Jefferson Market Gallery .

The work was selected by TEAM BeauSoleil to accompany the BeauSoleil Home to Washington D.C. for the 2009 Solar Decathlon. The exhibit is called “The Art Says Louisiana,” because it is representative of Louisiana's rich culture and traditions.

The art will be hung and displayed in the home during the Solar Decathlon competition in Washington D.C., one year from now. Following the competition the art will be returned to the highest bidders from the silent auction.

In last year's Decathlon, 120,000 people toured the homes and the 2009 event promises even greater exposure for the BeauSoleil Home, UL Lafayette, Louisiana, the Art that Says Louisiana and its patrons.

TEAM BeauSoleil is the UL Lafayette team that was selected as one of only 20 teams from around the world to participate in the international design/build competition called the Solar Decathlon.

The Solar Decathlon is a competition for teams of university students that compete to design, build, and operate an attractive, effective, and energy-efficient solar powered house. In late September 2009, college and university teams from around the world will join the competition's organizers and sponsors in Washington, D.C., to assemble a "solar village" on the National Mall. Architecture, design, business and engineering students along with LASBH and other community partners will design and build the BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home over the next two years. The name, inspired by the Grammy-winning Cajun band, reflects the proposal's intent to relate the project to its Cajun roots. The home will employ renewable energy sources in a culturally resonant form.
