Americorps Holding Prom Dress Giveaway On March 27

High school juniors and seniors going to prom this season can get a little help from UL Lafayette’s AmeriCorps program.

The group is currently collecting prom dresses and accessories to be given away to high school juniors and seniors on March 27 at the United Way building, 215 E. Pinhook Rd.

The giveaway starts at 10 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m.

“ We figure this is one less stressful thing for these girls to worry about,” said organizer Kristen Vaughan, a junior education major at UL Lafayette. “Also, prom can be really expensive. This giveaway helps alleviate some of their costs.”

Last year, more than 500 dresses were collected and just over 100 were donated.

Anyone interested in donating a dress, shoes and/or accessories, can do so until March 19 at the café at Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church on campus and at the Student Union Ticketmaster window.

A variety of sizes, styles and colors will be available. Students much show a current I.D. to participate. Spa gift certificates and other prizes will be given out.
