Plan to Help this Hurricane Season

Published

UL Lafayette’s AmeriCorps along with the Acadiana Red Cross and United Way Acadiana is looking for volunteers for the 2006 hurricane season.

The groups are asking interested individuals to register with the United Way of Acadiana as a 2006 Hurricane Season Volunteer. A few minutes is all it will take to provide your current contact information and answer a few questions about any special skills you may have and the type of volunteer assistance you would like to offer.

Registered volunteers will receive notice of upcoming local training sessions that are relevant to their specific areas of volunteer interest. The three organizations are working together to register, prepare, and coordinate volunteers this hurricane season. Volunteers are needed and training is available for community members willing to:

• Sort donations of food and clothing
• Coordinate distribution networks of needed donations and supplies
• Prepare and serve food
• Coordinate volunteers
• Care for children
• Care for the elderly
• Run errands
• House volunteers

If you volunteered to help through the United Way or other service organization in 2005, please call the United Way to register as a 2006 volunteer and make your volunteer interests known. New volunteers are also welcome.
