Gender & Sexuality Studies

You should minor in gender and sexuality studies if: 

  • You’re interested in the history of gender and sexuality. 
  • You want to explore the relationship between gender and culture around the world. 
  • You're interested in LGBTQ+ issues and how they intersect with class and race. 
  • You want to learn how media, politics, representation, health, and well-being interact with gender and sexuality.

With a minor in gender and sexuality studies, you’ll study sociology, anthropology, human development and family science, English, psychology, health, history, geography, and philosophy. Learn about human sexuality, feminist literature, and gender throughout history.

Explore various cultural aspects of gender and sexuality and their relationships to social forces throughout history.

Program Requirements

In order to complete a minor in gender and sexuality studies, you will need to complete 18 credits hours of relevant courses, with a minimum of 6 credit hours at the 300 or 400 levels.

To earn your minor, you are required to take:

  • HUMN 200 Ideas and issues: Intro to Gender & Sexualities Studies special topic
  • SOCI 354 Sociology of Sex and Sexualities

For the remaining 12 hours required, you can choose from a list of pre-approved courses for the minor. 

Credit hours earned for your major will not be counted toward your minor.
