First Year Students

Once admitted to the University, you may complete your housing application in the Housing Portal.

Live On Requirement

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette follows the University of Louisiana System policy that requires all unmarried, full-time first-year students, regardless of age or emancipation status, to live in campus residence halls as long as space is available.   1. Log into the Housing Portal (using your ULID and password for ULink)
  2. Click Housing Applications in top menu
  3. Select the correct term (Academic Year 2026 – 2027)
  4. Complete the housing application
    1. Your application is considered complete if you sign the housing contract and pay the non-refundable application fee and prepayment.
    2. You may come back to edit your roommate group and room type preferences through May 1, 2026.
    3. Meal plans can be edited in the Housing Portal through July 1, 2026. After this, you will have to request a change through Campus Food Services. Changes can be made through the first week of classes.
  • December 8, 2025  |  Housing applications go live! You are encouraged to submit your housing application after admission to UL Lafayette. Assignments are done on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the original application date. The student must have paid their application fee and signed their contract for their application to be considered complete.
  • May 1, 2026 |  Deadline to create roommate groups
  • May 1, 2026  |  Priority application deadline (based on room type availability)
    • After May 1, 2026, consideration is given based on the date of application and proximity to campus (based on availability).
  • Mid-Summer 2026  |  The first round of room assignments will be sent to students’ University email.

Living Learning Communities (LLCs) are residential communities for freshmen with a special emphasis on an academic major or an area of interest. Freshmen who participate have the unique opportunity to learn where they live, meet friends with similar majors and interests, and enjoy special events designed specifically for their LLC. This aims to transform their residential setting into an active, supportive, and exciting place to live and learn!

Roommate groups must be created and verified on the Housing Portal to be considered for assignment. A roommate group must meet two requirements for preferred roommates to be placed together:

  • The roommate group must include all requested members and be verified by the group leader.
  • All preferred roommates must have identical room preferences in the same order to be placed together.

Single-person roommate groups will be removed.
