Earn your marketing degree at UL Lafayette and build skills in branding, sales, research, and digital strategy through real projects with local businesses.
Marketing connects businesses with the people they serve. In the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Marketing, you'll learn how to understand what customers want, communicate the value of a product or service, and build the strategies that bring the two together. It's a major that rewards both creativity and business sense, and it prepares you for careers with businesses, nonprofits, and government agencies. Prefer to learn online? The BSBA in Marketing is also offered 100% online through UL Lafayette Online.
You Should Major in Marketing If...
- You love spotting new trends and market developments.
- You want to start your own business or help an established company grow.
- You enjoy communicating with individuals and groups.
What You'll Learn
You'll start with a foundation across business, including accounting, economics, finance, management, business law, and analytics, then build your marketing expertise course by course. Every marketing major studies consumer behavior, marketing analytics, marketing research, and international marketing, then chooses electives in areas like branding, social media marketing, digital marketing, professional sales, and retailing.
Learn Marketing by Doing It
Work With Real Clients
In Marketing Research (MKTG 375), you'll design and carry out a research study for a real local business or nonprofit, from choosing a sample and collecting data to analyzing the results and presenting recommendations your client can put to use.
Sharpen Your Sales Skills
In the Northwestern Mutual Sales and Research Lab, you'll practice sales presentations with feedback from faculty and industry professionals before heading into competitions and job interviews. Our student sales team regularly finishes near the top at regional and national sales competitions.
Compete in Your Capstone
In Marketing Management (MKTG 480), your senior capstone, you'll step into the role of a marketing executive, making strategy decisions for a company in a business simulation and competing against your classmates for the strongest results.
Focus Your Degree With a Concentration
Every marketing degree is 120 credit hours, with or without a concentration. A concentration uses some of your elective hours to build expertise in one area:
- Professional Sales: Learn selling techniques, sales management, and buyer negotiation, and practice your skills in the Northwestern Mutual Sales and Research Lab.
- Business Law: Add three upper-level business law courses to understand the legal side of marketing, sales, and business relationships.
- International Business: Build on International Marketing with more international business coursework and a global focus in your general education courses.
Learn Beyond the Classroom
Earn credit toward your degree with an internship through the Moody Business Internship Program. Marketing students have interned with companies including TABASCO®. You can also join the Ragin' Marketing chapter of the American Marketing Association to hear from guest speakers, tour local businesses, and build your professional network. See Organizations & Associations for details.
First-year students can also join the Business Secrets Living-Learning Community, living and taking classes with other students interested in starting and managing a business.
What Can I Do With a Marketing Degree?
Every organization needs to reach the people it serves, so marketing graduates work in nearly every industry, from global brands and agencies to nonprofits and government. You'll be ready for roles that call for creativity, analysis, and persuasion, and a marketing degree is also a strong foundation for starting your own business.
