Research Opportunities & Hands-On Learning

Explore hands-on learning and undergraduate research for UL Lafayette marketing majors, from client projects and the Sales Lab to ASRE Pathways.

Some of the best learning in the Department of Marketing happens outside a lecture hall. Every marketing major builds in real, hands-on experience, so you'll practice what you learn in class long before graduation. Want to go further? Add undergraduate research, which stands out on a resume, strengthens graduate school applications, and can earn recognition on your transcript.

Hands-On Learning

Marketing

Client research: In Marketing Research (MKTG 375), you'll design and run a research study for a real local business or nonprofit, from choosing a sample and collecting data to presenting recommendations your client can use.

Sales practice and competitions: In the Northwestern Mutual Sales and Research Lab, you'll practice sales presentations with feedback from faculty and industry professionals, then put your skills to the test at regional and national sales competitions.

Marketing Practicum: Tackle a real organization's marketing challenge through experiential learning in the Marketing Practicum (MKTG 430), offered with the permission of the instructor and department head.

Internships: Earn credit for supervised marketing work through the Internship in Marketing (MKTG 498) and the Moody Business Internship Program.

All Business Majors

MCOBA Student Investment Fund: Launched in 2026 with $100,000 in donor capital, the college's Student Investment Fund lets students from every business major make real investment decisions alongside faculty advisors, the dean, and industry experts.

Business Secrets Living-Learning Community: First-year students can live and take classes with other students interested in starting and managing a business through the Business Secrets Living-Learning Community.

Undergraduate Research

Marketing ASRE Pathway

Marketing majors can follow their own pathway in UL Lafayette's Advance Student Research Experience (ASRE) program and earn the Advance designation on their transcript, at no extra cost. Both tracks build on courses you'll already take, including Principles of Marketing, Advanced Business Analytics, and Marketing Research.
