First-Time Freshman
If you’ve never attended college, or you’ve earned fewer than 24 credit hours (about eight courses), you’re considered a first-time freshman. Please note that if you’ve attended another college or university, you must be in good standing with that institution to be admitted to UL Lafayette.
You must also meet the following requirements:
- 18 ACT English, 500 SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing, or 250 Accuplacer Writing — or a 3.0 overall high school GPA (unweighted)
- 19 ACT Math, 510 SAT Math, or 250 Accuplacer QAS Math — or a 3.0 overall high school GPA (unweighted)
- 2.0 cumulative GPA (unweighted)
If you graduated from a Louisiana high school and are applying as a freshman, you must also:
If you graduated from a high school outside Louisiana or were homeschooled, you must meet the standard freshman requirements plus one of the following:
Alternative High School Credential
If you did not graduate from high school but have taken the HiSET exam, you’ll need:
- A HiSET score of 15 on any subtest and a score of 4 on HiSET essay and
- 18 ACT English or 500 SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing
- 19 ACT Math or 510 SAT Math
Re-entry
If you’ve attended UL Lafayette in the past, welcome back! You’ll apply as a re-entry student.
You must have a 1.5 cumulative GPA and be eligible to return to all other colleges or universities you may have attended to be considered for readmission to UL Lafayette.
Your cumulative GPA includes coursework completed at all colleges or universities you have attended, including UL Lafayette.
Transfer
If you have earned more than 24 college credits and have never attended UL Lafayette, you’ll apply as a transfer student. You must be eligible to return to all colleges or universities you previously attended to be admitted to UL Lafayette.
You can transfer with guaranteed admission if you have earned an associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
Otherwise, you must have:
- A 2.25 GPA or higher (excluding developmental or remedial courses)
- Completed college-level freshman English with a C or better
- Completed college mathematics with a C or better

Your dean’s office will officially determine which transfer credits will apply to your degree program before you register for your first term.
