The 2014 Wear Red champions will be crowned during a special presentation at halftime of the Ragin' Cajuns game against Arkansas State on Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Schools and businesses around Acadiana sported Ragin’ Cajun red on Aug. 29 to show their Ragin’ Cajun spirit and their support for the University. That Friday, designated as Wear Red Day, offered businesses, fans and schools the opportunity to engage in some friendly competition. Fans celebrated by taking photos of themselves with the families, friends, or coworkers and submitted them to the University.
A committee of University faculty, staff and students selected winners in eight categories:
- Small business champion: Lafayette School’s Credit Union
- Mid-size business champion: Townsquare Media
- Large business champion: Lafayette Consolidated Government
- Wear Red Spirit Award: McDonald’s
- Wear Red Creative Sign Award: Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce
- UL Lafayette Campus Award: College of Nursing and Allied Health Professions
- K-12 Schools Award: David Thibodeaux STEM
- Family Award: Marcie LeBlanc and family
“Each year, we are impressed by the effort and creativity of individuals and groups of fans that send in entries. This is the ninth year of the Wear Red competition, and the response from the community, as always, was outstanding. The judges have a difficult time selecting the winners,” said Matt Tarver, brand manager for UL Lafayette.
A special presentation will be made to the winners during Tuesday’s game between the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns and Arkansas State at Cajun Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Photographs submitted by businesses will be displayed on the scoreboard during halftime.
Celebrated each fall, Wear Red Day was held in conjunction with College Colors Day, a national celebration of the traditions, contributions and achievements of universities across the country.
