The Office of Student Engagement and Leadership expects fraternities and sororities to promote the academic achievement of its members. With this in mind the following academic polices must be followed:

General Information

  1. Each semester (fall and spring), the total chapter must achieve a 2.0 GPA.
  2. The chapter GPA and new member class GPA computation is based upon the December and
April Roster Updates. Once the roster update is completed, no changes will be made.

Academic Warning

  1. Chapters (total chapter) that fail to achieve a 2.0 GPA will be given an academic warning.
  2. Academic warning period lasts for one semester. Chapter will be required to submit a scholarship action plan that highlights a success plan for the chapter to improve academically. In Failure to complete the provisions in a timely manner may result in fines or additional sanctions.
  3. If the chapter (total chapter) achieves a 2.0 GPA or higher the following semester, the chapter will be placed back in good standing.

Academic Probation

  1. If the chapter (total chapter) fails to achieve a 2.0 GPA at the end of the Academic Warning
period, the chapter will be placed on Academic Probation.
  2. Academic Probation lasts for one semester and requires a meeting with the Office of Student
Engagement and Leadership to receive sanctions. Chapter leadership will be required to meet
with regional leadership, advisor, and university staff to develop a plan for academic success.
  3. To be removed from Academic Probation, the chapter (total chapter) must achieve a 2.0 GPA

Greek Excellence Standards

The Excellence Standards are a comprehensive framework designed to strengthen individual chapters and the overall Greek community at UL Lafayette. These benchmarks guide chapters toward meaningful, values-driven success through effective operations, academic achievement, leadership development, and member well-being.

Each year, the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership (OSEL) evaluates chapters through the Excellence Standards process. This assessment provides targeted feedback and recognizes achievements that align with our commitment to transparency, accountability, and holistic student development.

Focus Areas:

  • Health and safety
  • Membership education and development
  • Community and campus involvement
  • Organizational development

Chapters submit annual documentation to demonstrate progress in these areas and are recognized on a five-star scale for their accomplishments.

Excellence Program Goals:

  • One star: Chapter meets the minimum health and safety standards required.
  • Two to five stars: Chapters may pursue higher Excellence Levels, earning additional stars by meeting criteria that demonstrate leadership, academic excellence, and community impact.

Member Education & Development

Members of the fraternity and sorority community benefit from programs that build both personal and professional skills. These initiatives focus on leadership, scholarship, community engagement, and chapter success.

Programs and Learning Opportunities Include:

  • Leadership training and officer transitions
  • Academic support and goal setting
  • Chapter management and operations guidance
  • Senior member and alumni engagement
  • Personal and professional skill development

Stars are awarded to chapters demonstrating exceptional performance in these areas as part of the Greek Excellence Standards program.
