Panhellenic Council

Joining a sorority with the Panhellenic Council (CPC) at UL Lafayette offers you a community of women who will support and challenge you, fostering lifelong friendships and leadership growth.

Sorority life is about giving back to the community, developing confidence, and building a network that empowers you far beyond college. Panhellenic women are leaders, scholars, and changemakers who make a difference on campus and in their careers.

Above all, sisterhood is a bond that lasts a lifetime—a family away from home.

Getting Started with the Panhellenic Council

Do I need to register for formal recruitment and how much does it cost?

Yes! The registration fee is $100, and the registration is available online.

What happens during Recruitment Week?

During Recruitment Week, you will meet each sorority and learn about their sisterhood, values, and financial transparency. The process is designed to help you find the sorority that is the best fit for you.

Will there be someone to guide me through Recruitment Week?

Your Gamma Chi (recruitment counselor) will guide you through the process. She is a trained volunteer who is neutral and disassociated from her sorority, ensuring you receive unbiased support and advice throughout Recruitment.

What should I wear?

Check out the @ULPanhellenic Instagram for tips on how to dress for formal recruitment.

Gamma Chi & Recruitment Process Overview

  • Gamma Chis: These trained counselors help guide you through the recruitment process, answering questions and offering support while maintaining confidentiality about their own sorority affiliations.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Letters are optional and not required to join a Panhellenic sorority. Check each chapter's specific requirements, as some chapters no longer accept them.

For further questions, contact the office of Student Engagement and Leadership at (337) 482-6272 or greek@louisiana.edu.

Membership costs vary by chapter, and your first semester will include one-time new member or initiation fees.

Average expenses per semester:

  • New Member Fees: Vary by chapter
  • Semester Dues: Approximately $1,500–$2,000

Your Gamma Chi and chapter representatives will provide specific financial information during recruitment.

The time commitment for a sorority can vary depending on the chapter, but the first semester tends to be the most time-intensive. During this period, new members go through the chapter’s education program, which is designed to help you develop leadership and time management skills, learn about the organization, form friendships, and get involved in other campus activities.

Chapters hold weekly meetings and other events throughout the year, such as philanthropies, socials, and initiations. These events are typically planned in advance. While the time commitment includes weekly meetings, the more you participate in chapter activities, the more rewarding your experience will be.

All Sorority members are expected to:

  • Maintain academic and financial accountability
  • Uphold chapter, council, and University policies
  • Support anti-hazing practices
  • Participate in mandatory educational programs and training
