Placement & Testing

Take charge of your college credits from the very start.

You've worked hard to earn your GPA and test scores. Now, those criteria (and others) will be used to place you into your first English and Math classes.

Additionally, we offer a variety of testing opportunities that, if passed, allow you to bypass classes you've already mastered and dive into more advanced coursework.

While you will meet with an academic advisor at Orientation, it's important to familiarize yourself with the following placement and testing information. If you need to take an English or mathematics placement exam, you should aim to do so before attending Orientation.

English Placement

UL Lafayette uses ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER scores, final high school GPA, or college-level English courses you've taken (including dual enrollment) to place students into a first-semester English course. Scores must be on file with the Office of Admissions at least 30 days before Orientation to ensure correct placement.

Placement Exams

If your ACT/SAT scores do not permit you to qualify for your major's first Math or English class, you should take a placement exam to ensure that you stay on track with your curriculum.
