English Placement

UL Lafayette utilizes ACT, SAT, ACCUPLACER scores, final high school GPA, or any college-level English courses taken (including dual enrollment) to place students into English courses for their first semester. 

Your scores must be on file with the UL Lafayette Office of Admissions at least 30 days before your scheduled Orientation session to ensure correct course placement. 

If any of your scores or credits are not on file with the University by your Orientation date, you must bring printed copies of your score reports and/or transcripts with you to Orientation to ensure that you are advised accurately.

You are strongly encouraged to retake the English ACCUPLACER exam to attempt to place into ENGL 101 without the lab requirement.

250 or higherENGL 101 (Introduction to Academic Writing)

Students with a final high school GPA of 3.00 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) will be placed into ENGL 101 (Introduction to Academic Writing) for their first semester (even if their ACT English or SAT ERW scores do not meet the minimum requirements for ENGL 101). 

ESOL Placement 

(for International Students who are Non-Native Speakers of English)

International students who do not meet the minimum scores listed below cannot schedule a UL Lafayette ESOL or English course.  Placement is based on TOEFL, IELTS, ACT, or SAT scores. Students who successfully complete the Intensive English Program (IEP) level 6 should schedule ESOL 101.

After successful completion of ESOL 101, students may register for ESOL 102; however, they cannot be given credit for ESOL 101 based on TOEFL or IELTS scores.
