Applications by Type

Start by applying to UL Lafayette through the standard undergraduate application process. To be admitted to the nursing undergraduate program, you must meet the minimum requirements for all undergraduate students. As you complete your prerequisites, you'll apply separately for NURS 208, your first clinical nursing course, by November 1 for the spring semester or April 1 for the fall semester. See the progression requirements.

Applications open each fall semester, and nursing courses begin the following May. Because you must finish your prerequisites before nursing courses begin, apply as soon as possible.

Admission Requirements

  • A completed non-nursing bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • An overall GPA of 2.6 or higher on all previous undergraduate, college-level coursework
  • Undergraduate admission to UL Lafayette
  • A completed in-person program interview
  • Completion of 50 hours of required general education prerequisite courses before your nursing courses begin
  • A U.S. Social Security number

How to Apply

  1. Apply to UL Lafayette. Submit your application to the University, and ask the registrar's office at every institution you've attended to send your transcripts directly to the UL Lafayette Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
  2. Get your transcript evaluation. Once you're admitted and your 2.6 GPA is verified, the college reviews your transcripts and emails you an evaluation before your interview. General education credits from your previous degree may transfer on a case-by-case basis, so the number of prerequisites you need will vary. Science courses expire after ten years.
  3. Interview with the college. Complete an in-person interview. After all interviews, the College of Nursing & Health Sciences selects students from the qualified pool for this limited-enrollment program.
  4. Finish your prerequisites. You'll have the summer, fall, and spring semesters to complete any outstanding prerequisites with a "C" or better. Many prerequisite courses are offered only on campus, in person.

Admission to the university doesn't guarantee admission to the Accelerated BSN.

The RN to BSN is offered through UL Lafayette Online. See admission requirements and apply.

Want to know if your credits will transfer? Contact us to request a transcript evaluation. All transcripts are reviewed by an advisor in the Nursing Student Services Office.

  • Transfer students are subject to the BSN student policies. Failing or withdrawing from nursing courses at another accredited institution is treated the same as failing or withdrawing from required nursing courses at UL Lafayette, and failures in non-nursing courses are treated the same as failures in non-nursing courses at UL Lafayette.
  • Transfer, change-of-major, and re-entry students must be enrolled at UL Lafayette during the semester they apply to be considered for NURS 208/209. If your enrollment in nursing courses is interrupted for three years, you must repeat all required courses titled Nursing.
  • Science course credits (such as CHEM and BIOL) must be no older than ten years. Older science courses must be repeated with a "C" or better.
  • Transfer credit for BIOL 220, BIOL 221, and BIOL 318 doesn't apply toward the BSN. You must take these courses at UL Lafayette.
