Advising

Get advising for UL Lafayette nursing students from Nursing Student Services, including group advising dates, how to prepare, and graduate advising.

Your advisors help you plan your path through the nursing degree, from prerequisites and your NURS 208 application to clinicals and graduation. Get to know them before you need help.

Graduate Students: Initial advising for MSN and DNP students takes place at orientation at the beginning of the program. After that, advising is completed electronically each semester. Questions? Contact the Graduate Nursing Office.

Undergraduate Advising

All advising at the undergraduate level is conducted by professional advisors in the Nursing Student Services Office.

RN to BSN Students: RN to BSN students have advisors dedicated to that program. Email RN2BSNadvisor@louisiana.edu.

Transfer students: All transcripts must be reviewed by an advisor in Nursing Student Services. Learn how to request a transcript evaluation.

Preparing for Advising

Advising takes place each semester, in October for the fall semester and in March for the spring semester, before registration opens for the next term. Group advising schedules are posted outside the Nursing Student Services Office, On Moodle, and on social media.

Advising and registration: You are required to meet with your advisor every semester. Your advising hold must be lifted before you can register for classes.

  • Review your progress toward your degree using Degree Works
  • Choose courses for your next semester, with backup options if a class is full
  • Talk through any current classes you're concerned about, especially if they affect prerequisites or your NURS 208 eligibility
  • Talk about your interests and career goals, including clinical specialties, student organizations, and graduate study
  • Lift your advising hold so you can register

  1. Check the schedule. Look for group advising dates and the academic calendar.
  2. Review your degree audit. Open your Degree Works audit to see what you've completed and what's left.
  3. Know your requirements. Review your degree plan on Curriculum & Catalogs and the progression requirements.
  4. Look up classes. Use Look up Classes in ULink to see what's offered next semester.
  5. Build a course list. Choose the courses you'd like to take, plus alternates.
  6. Write down your questions.
