Sigma Theta Tau International supports the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. UL Lafayette's Delta Eta Chapter was established by faculty in October 1976 and celebrates nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. The chapter presents Accent on Scholarship, an annual research seminar, every fall.

Membership is by invitation, and new members are inducted each fall. Candidates must demonstrate superior scholastic achievement, academic integrity, and professional leadership potential:

  • Undergraduate students must have completed half of the nursing curriculum, have at least a 3.0 GPA, and rank in the top 15% of the second-semester junior class or the upper 35% of the senior class.
  • Graduate (master's) students must have completed one-quarter of their program of study and have at least a 3.5 GPA.
  • Community nurse leaders with at least a baccalaureate degree and marked achievement in nursing education, practice, research, administration, or publication may be nominated by a chapter member or inquire about membership.
