Explore hands-on learning and undergraduate research for UL Lafayette management, hospitality, and PLRM majors, from Lunch Club to ASRE Pathways.
Some of the best learning in the Department of Management happens outside a lecture hall. Every major builds in real, hands-on experience, so you'll practice what you learn in class long before graduation. Want to go further? Add undergraduate research, which stands out on a resume, strengthens graduate school applications, and can earn recognition on your transcript.
Hands-On Learning
Lunch Club: Run our student-operated restaurant on the second floor of Hamilton Hall. Senior hospitality management students handle every part of the operation, from developing menus and budgets to cooking, managing staff, and serving guests, rotating through positions over the semester in the Applied Food Service Management course.
Food Preparation Lab: Learn food safety and preparation techniques in dedicated kitchen units, building the foundation for Lunch Club and for national certifications like ServSafe.
800 hours of industry experience: Every hospitality management major documents 800 hours of work in the industry before graduating, plus a 150-hour internship.
Business Secrets Living-Learning Community: First-year students can live and take classes with other students interested in starting and managing a business through the Business Secrets Living-Learning Community.
The program's own oil well lease: Do real landman work on the lease our program manages in Iberia Parish, and graduate with experience you can put on your resume.
Oil and gas expos: Set up a booth with your classmates at national expos in Louisiana and Houston, see every stage of resource development up close, and meet the professionals who hire landmen.
Industry seminar: Hear directly from industry professionals in the Fundamentals of Petroleum Land Management Seminar (PLRM 375) on topics like leasing federal lands and using land management software.
