Health Alerts & Resources

By law, the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is required to inform you about meningitis and to advise of the need for mandatory vaccination against the disease for all students admitted to UL Lafayette. The latest research is showing that the effectiveness of the vaccine may decrease with time, leading to the newest recommendations for a booster dose. The following are current CDC recommendations regarding Meningococcal vaccination:

  • Adolescents get the 1st dose of the meningococcal vaccine at age 11 or 12 with a booster dose at age 16.
  • Students entering college who have not received the meningococcal vaccine must get at least one dose.
  • Students entering college who received their first dose of the meningococcal vaccine before their 16th birthday are required to get a booster.

UL Lafayette is committed to ensuring, to the best of its ability, the safety of its students, faculty, and staff. While all departments and students on campus are encouraged to participate in and contribute to campus safety, this initiative is led by the Environmental Health & Safety Department on campus. Explore their site for the latest information on campus safety and communicable diseases.
