Published

Jazz Week at UL Lafayette for the Spring 2008 semester is scheduled to start April 14 with the Jazz Guitar Quintet and Jazz Combo I taking the stage at Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium in Angelle Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Directed by Dr. Jeff George, the Jazz Guitar Quintet features five guitars, plus bass and drums, uniting to play arrangements of standard jazz tunes and original compositions.

Jazz Combo I under the direction of Dr. Bob Luckey, is UL Lafayette’s top small jazz group. Comprised of seven outstanding undergraduate music students, plus the director, Jazz Combo I plays a wide variety of challenging jazz numbers.

The program on April 15 will feature Jazz Combos 2 and 3. Featuring students with intermediate improvising skills, Jazz Combo 2 is directed by Dr. Paul Morton. Jazz Combo 3 led by Dr. Robert Wiley was established as a training group for students with little jazz experience.

The UL Lafayette Faculty Jazz Combo, comprised of several School of Music professors, will perform on April 16 – the final night of Jazz Week. Because so many UL Lafayette music faculty play jazz, this is a very exceptional group of seasoned performers, who enjoy the challenges that jazz music has to offer.

All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium in Angelle Hall. Admission is free to all UL Lafayette students, faculty and staff with a current I.D. There will be a $6 general admission charge. Seniors will be admitted for $4 and children under the age of 6 will be admitted for free.
