Start your dental hygiene career at UL Lafayette with a two-year pre-dental hygiene curriculum that prepares you to transfer to a bachelor's program.
UL Lafayette doesn't award a degree in dental hygiene, but our two-year pre-dental hygiene curriculum gives you the instruction and coursework you need to move forward. It's designed for students who want to complete their required coursework at UL Lafayette, then transfer to a Bachelor of Science program for clinical training. In Louisiana, the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry and the University of Louisiana Monroe offer bachelor's degrees in dental hygiene.
How It Works
- Once you're admitted to UL Lafayette, declare pre-dental hygiene as your major.
- Work with your advisor to schedule your courses at UL Lafayette.
- Get admission requirements and procedures directly from the program you plan to transfer to: the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry, the UL Monroe dental hygiene program, or an out-of-state program.
- Plan your remaining courses with your advisor so they match your transfer program's requirements.
What You'll Study
You'll complete 63–65 credit hours of general education and science coursework, including biology, chemistry, human anatomy and physiology, and microbiology. The program you plan to transfer into determines exactly which courses you take at UL Lafayette, so your advisor will help you choose the right ones.
