Get Funded

The Student Government Association provides financial resources to individuals, student organizations, and academic departments in order to assist these groups in their pursuits. There are a few ways in which SGA provides such financial assistance:

  • For individual students seeking to attend an academic conference or to register for a graduate admissions or professional certification exam.
  • For student organizations seeking to host a banquet or other form of event programming.
  • For graduate students in need of additional printing in university STEP labs.
  • For academic departments seeking to host guest speakers through the University Lyceum Fund.
  • Through our annual scholarship program, determined every summer.

The Vice President of SGA and the Council of Presidents also serve on the STEP Committee to assist with allocating STEP funds to academic and administrative departments that have submitted proposals for technological initiatives.

Funding Resources

The Student Government Association funds individuals and registered campus organizations in accordance with the SGA bylaws. Any requests must be filed no later than 4 weeks before the event or trip. Any requests not received at least 4 weeks prior to the event will not receive funding.  We are currently funding under restructured guidelines as follows:

Conference Registration: $200 total for individuals and up to $200.00 per person, not exceeding
$1000 total for groups attending. Individuals applying as part of a group must include their organization in the application. SGA is currently able to fund for registration costs only, in the limits stated above.

Each student and student organization that will be funded must submit a form W-9 to get them registered into the Banner vendor table that allows payment to be made.  Organizations that do not follow the requirements stated in the SGA bylaws will be placed on a probationary period of two semesters, not including summer semesters. During this time, they will not be able to receive any SGA funding.

PLEASE NOTE:
The SGA Finance Committee is responsible for the initial review of any funding request before it is then presented to the SGA Senate for approval.  Any request for funding must be reviewed and passed by the entire SGA Senate before funds may be disbursed.

AS PER CURRENT RULES ON FUNDING WITH THE BUSINESS OFFICE, WE ARE UNABLE TO REIMBURSE CONFERENCES PAID WITH GRANTS OR GOVERNMENTAL FUNDS.

Compliance - Conference

The Student Government Association provides reimbursement for programming events held by registered campus organizations in strict accordance with the SGA Bylaws.

Organizations may request funding for up to four (4) separate events each semester. No organization may receive more than $1000 in SGA programming funds in a semester. Requests must be filed no later than four weeks before the event. Any requests not received at least four weeks prior to the event will not receive funding.

SGA may provide funding to defray costs pertaining to speakers, venues, and rentals. SGA funds from this account do not provide reimbursement for food, awards, or travel. Additionally, SGA programming funds may not be used to reimburse faculty/staff, departments/colleges, or foundation accounts. EXACT figures should be obtained from banquet halls, award shops, caterers, etc., and stated on the application form. Estimates should not be included.

If awarded funding, organizations must submit all pertinent receipts to the SGA Office within two weeks of the event’s conclusion. Organizations that fail to comply with these requirements will not receive reimbursements and may be placed on probation for two semesters (not including summer semesters), during which time they may not receive SGA funding.

Submitting this form indicates that you have read the rules and regulations regarding the spending allocated funds procured from the Student Government Association of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and agree to comply with them under penalty of probation.

Any request for funding must be reviewed and passed by the SGA Programming Committee before funds may be disbursed.

Beginning Fall 2025, SGA will offer a limited number of Test Registration reimbursement vouchers to UL students. These vouchers are meant to help defray the cost of current UL students who need to take standardized exams to either: 1). apply to graduate level programs (e.g. GRE, GMAT, MCAT, or LSAT), or 2). are seeking to achieve professional certification for their field post-graduation.

Students may receive up to $200.00 in reimbursement for test registration. Students may only apply once (1) per semester and are not guaranteed funding or full reimbursement. Please consult the full guidelines on the application form below for more information.

The Student Government Association provides a supplemental fund voucher program for graduate students who deplete their PaperCut account. This program began and was implemented during the 2013-2014 Academic Year as one of the college projects from the members of the SGA College of Graduate School Delegation.

Your PaperCut account is your individual account which keeps track of your printing allowance for each semester. Once a graduate student reaches $0.00, they will be able to fill out the online form to apply for a voucher that will add more funds to their account. Each voucher is worth $10.00 (100 pages of printing) and each student is allowed a maximum 2 per semester. There are only 50 vouchers available for the semester, so be sure to claim yours as soon as you run out!

Please attach/submit proof of the $0.00 balance with this online form.
