The Acting concentration in UL Lafayette’s Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performing Arts provides immersive, hands-on performance training. Students engage in technique, creativity, and scholarly understanding while gaining immediate experience through auditions, roles, and production work.

Immersion from Day One

From the first semester, students participate in the making of theatre—on stage and behind the scenes—building essential skills through auditions, rehearsal processes, and production assignments.

What You’ll Learn

As an Acting major, you will develop creative, technical, and collaborative abilities central to professional theatre. Training spans studio practice, production, and analysis.

  • Studio training in movement, voice, scriptwriting, and production.
  • Performance skills including character development, text interpretation, and stage presence.
  • Application of professional rehearsal and performance standards.
  • Understanding of theatre history, forms, and cultural contexts.
  • Collaborative practice across acting, design/technology, and directing.
  • Coursework that includes Voice for the Actor I (THEA 201) and Stagecraft (THEA 251).

Performance & Professional Experience

Learning is reinforced through consistent production involvement that builds résumés and professional habits.

Admissions & Production Requirements

Entry into the concentration follows an initial period of study and formal evaluation. Ongoing production involvement is an integral part of the program.

  2. End-of-first-semester audition/interview for formal admission to the Acting concentration, with consideration of academic and production performance.
  3. Semesterly auditions for mainstage productions, with acceptance of roles or production assignments as offered.
