Where I'm Going

"I understand that getting a managerial job right after graduation is hard, which makes this program valuable. Working with a data-driven team fits my career goals. I studied in the US, specifically this state, because of the many engineering opportunities."

Ramisa Nawar Promee, originally from Bangladesh, is currently pursuing her master’s in engineering management at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She is also a graduate assistant for the Graduate School, showcasing her dedication and drive. Balancing her responsibilities, she aims to complete the program in just three semesters, graduating by December 2024.

Driven by a passion for data analytics and management, Ramisa's journey into engineering management stems from her undergraduate years in Mechanical Engineering at Bangladesh's Military Institute of Science and Technology. Following her 2019 graduation, she entered into the corporate world, where her role as a Global Product Coordinator sparked a desire for deeper understanding in engineering team management.

Fueled by this aspiration, Ramisa explored various engineering management programs before discovering UL Lafayette's unique blend of engineering principles and managerial skills. Recognizing the program's alignment with her educational and professional goals, she became the first in her network to enroll, eager to combine her technical prowess with managerial intelligence.

In her academic pursuits, Ramisa finds fulfillment in learning about management principles and exploring new fields. One of her standout experiences involves Lean Six Sigma research, where she harnesses principles to streamline work processes and enhance production management. Alongside her studies, Ramisa is pursuing project management certifications, including a Green Belt, to specialize in Lean Six Sigma and drive operational efficiency.

Throughout her journey, Ramisa has created meaningful relationships with faculty mentors, whose guidance has been instrumental in her academic and professional growth. Dr. Jim Lee, in particular, stands out for his approachability and support, enriching her UL Lafayette experience.

Ramisa's enthusiasm extends beyond the classroom, as she actively engages in extracurriculars and national organizations. Her involvement in the Bangladesh Student Association, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers highlights her commitment to cultural enrichment and professional development.

Reflecting on her time at UL Lafayette, Ramisa cherishes the warm and inclusive atmosphere, which has facilitated her transition as an international student. From experiencing local traditions like the Mardi Gras parade to finding solace in cultural nights and gatherings, she finds a sense of belonging within the university community.

To prospective students weighing their options, Ramisa highlights UL Lafayette's research talent, diverse engineering management program, and welcoming climate. Her advice resonates with passion and purpose: "Follow your passion in both study and career, for it's never too late to start afresh. The key is to begin now—in a few years from today, you could be living a happier, more fulfilling life."
