Ten Reasons to Check Out Wake Up & Write in July
Calling all graduate students and faculty members.
It’s July. It’s 8:00 AM, and the heat index is already 88 degrees. But let’s be honest, even though it will be hot enough to cook an egg on the sidewalk by noon, the humidity is the real killer. Summer is nearing its peak.

As Louisiana seems to draw ever closer to the sun, we round the corner to the Fall semester—and the expectations of productivity that come with it.
But don’t worry—there’s still time!
To set you up for success, the Graduate School has teamed up with Dr. Amanda Mayeaux to host Wake Up & Write at Bourgeois Hall every Monday in July. Bring your ULID, check in at the front desk, and we’ll be there ready to welcome you.
New place, same goals!
Not familiar with Wake Up & Write?! If you’ve never participated, now’s the time to start. This Graduate School weekly writing and productivity opportunity brings together students and faculty from 8:30-10:30 AM to move our projects forward. The Grad School supplies a quiet space, coffee, and donuts. You bring your goals and your focus. Together, we get things done.
It's summer, I know. You’ve worked hard to get here, and summer hasn’t really been a break. You deserve a break. But hear me out. We’ve got ten reasons why you should stop by Wake Up & Write in July:

1. The People – Bring your friends or make new ones. We’re all the wild west of academia together. Wake Up & Write is the perfect place to develop academic connections with other like-minded students and faculty members while working towards shared goals.

2. The Productivity Increase – You’ll see a definitive productivity increase when working alongside others as your nervous system begins to co-regulate, using biological reward systems to become calmer and more focused. Trust the science!

3. The Grad School Support – The Graduate School’s team is available to assist with formatting for theses, dissertations, and synthesis projects. We’re also ready to offer guidance on the final manuscript submission process.

4. The Sweet, Sweet A/C – Maybe this one goes without saying, but Bourgeois has got your back when it comes to keeping cool this summer.

5. The Free Parking – Parking may be a challenge on the main campus, but not at Bourgeois Hall. With three hundred free spaces, there’s no shortage of options and no need to add parking to your list of summer woes.

6. The Snacks – Coffee, donuts, and other snacks. What’s not to love?

7. Location, Location, Location: Stay Active – Bourgeois is home to the Student Fitness Center, and it’s the right place for a great workout no matter your experience or goals. The dopamine rush of a good workout could be exactly what you need after Wake Up & Write.

8. Location, Location, Location: Or Just Relax – Visit the Student Aquatics Center. Per the website, “With a lap pool and leisure pool, you've got the best of both worlds all in one place!” Plus, Bourgeois also boasts a meditation room where you can relax to your heart’s content.

9. The Ability to Pace Yourself – Don’t let the fall semester sneak up on you. With Wake Up & Write, you can pace yourself, working on one item at a time without feeling rushed or falling behind.

10. The Relief – At the end of the month, you can breathe a sigh of relief. You can reward yourself for a job well done, beginning the next semester on track—or even ahead of the game.
Seriously, folks. July attendance is the way to go. See you at Bourgeois Hall on Monday, July 7 at 8:30 AM. We can’t wait!
