Who Should Apply

Ideal candidates are disciplined, creative, and committed. All dance majors:

  • Audition for mainstage productions each semester
  • Accept any cast role offered
  • Balance rigorous course load and rehearsals
  • Maintain professional conduct and studio success

Admission

University admission is required.

Transfer students should audition in Spring for placement; unconditional admission may require foundational catch‑up coursework.

Auditions

Prospective B.F.A. in Performing Arts — Dance students are invited to audition in person. Audition days include a Ballet and Modern class, plus opportunities to meet faculty and current students. 

Register for an audition

Auditions are in McLaurin Hall from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. on the following dates:

  • September 26, 2025
  • October 24, 2025
  • November 14, 2025
  • February 13, 2025

Audition Schedule

  • 8 - 8:45 a.m.: Meet with Dance Faculty
  • 9 - 10:45 a.m.: Ballet Technique
  • 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Modern Technique
  • 12:30 - 12:45 p.m.: Meet with Dance Majors
  • 12:45 - 1 p.m.: Closeout  

Those unable to attend an in-person audition may be eligible for video submission. Please contact Dance Program Coordinator Michael Crotty with questions.   

Audition Attire

All dancers should wear solid-colored tights with either a solid-colored leotard or form-fitted shirt that allows faculty to clearly see the body. While not required for audition, prospective students with pointe experience are welcome to wear pointe shoes for the ballet portion of the audition.
