Spaces & Places in the Arts

Each school and department offers a variety of state-of-the-art facilities for our students to create and learn as well as resources to help them succeed.

The College of the Arts Administrative Office is housed in Fletcher Hall along with many other shared college resources for facilities instruction, production, fabrication, and exhibition. The College also occupies a part of Parker Hall.

Instructional Facilities  

Fletcher Hall – Houses six SMART classrooms and a 130 + seat lecture hall, and a specialized resource room to holistically support students, and the Digital Media Resource Center (DMRC) equipped with industry-standard computers and software for digital production.

Exhibition Spaces

  • Fletcher Hall Gallery – 2,500 square foot exhibition space for senior shows, juried student exhibitions, and other curated shows
  • Dean’s Gallery – 600 square foot gallery for small exhibitions
  • DMRC Lobby Gallery – 200 square foot space for student digital art
  • Visual Arts Annex Gallery – 600 square foot space for foundational student work 

Facilities by School

The School of Music occupies Angelle Hall, which houses faculty offices, instruction, performance, rehearsal, and production facilities.

 

Performance Facilities

Angelle Hall - Houses Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium, an 800-seat concert hall, and the Choral Room, a 105-seat hall used for recitals

 

Rehearsal & Instructional  

Angelle Hall – Houses faculty offices, 40 practice rooms, three large ensemble rehearsal rooms, and a percussion wing, as well as specialized recording and production studios, classrooms, and the Inez Biossat Griffin Music Resource Center

The School of Dance and Theatre occupies McLaurin Hall and part of Burke-Hawthorne Hall, which houses faculty offices, instruction, performance, rehearsal, and production facilities.

 

Performance Facilities

Burke-Hawthorne Hall, Burke Theatre – A 200+ seat proscenium theatre, featuring professional-grade lighting and sound systems used for mainstage Theatre and Dance productions.

 

Rehearsal and Instructional Spaces

McLaurin Hall – Houses faculty offices, a Modern Dance studio, a Ballet studio, and classrooms.

  

Production Facilities

Burke-Hawthorne Hall – Houses a scene shop, costume shop, green room, and dressing rooms.

The School of Visual Arts occupies part of Fletcher Hall and the Visual Arts Annex, which houses faculty offices, instruction, production, fabrication, and exhibition facilities.  

 

Instructional Facilities  

Fletcher Hall – Houses faculty offices, classrooms, and studios for computer art, animation, ceramics, graphic design, new media, metalwork, painting, photography, and printmaking.

Visual Arts Annex – Houses faculty offices, studios for drawing, sculpture, three-dimensional design, and Art Education.

The School of Architecture and Design occupies Fletcher Hall and a part of 1606 Johnston Street, which houses faculty offices, instruction, production, fabrication, and exhibition facilities.  

Instructional Facilities  

  • Fletcher Hall – Houses faculty offices, classrooms, and studios for architectural, interior, and industrial design.  
  • 1606 Johnston Street – Houses studios for architectural design 

Production & Fabrication Facilities  

  • Fletcher Hall – Houses a General Fabrication Laboratory with traditional and CNC tools for wood, plastic, and cold metals, a Digital Fabrication Laboratory with laser cutters, 3D printers, and computer stations, and a Photo Documentation Room for photographing original work.
  • Parker Hall – Houses a Metal Fabrication Laboratory with tools for hot and cold metal work, including a CNC plasma cutter, welders, forges, and hammers.
