Accounting Career Opportunities

The Department of Accounting works with local businesses to provide internships and other part-time job opportunities for our students.

With experiences like these, you can hone the skills you need for the workforce and learn the ins and outs of an accounting career — starting while you're in school and continuing after you graduate.

Accounting firms and industry professionals regularly visit classes to share their experiences and recruit interns. The department hosts speed interviewing with accounting firms, and our accounting student organizations hold professional development events every semester.

For internship eligibility, the application process, and course-specific prerequisites, see the Moody Business Internship Program. For help with your resume, interview skills, and job or internship search, visit Career Services.

How to Use Your Accounting Degree

With an accounting degree, you can become an accountant — international, forensic, public, government, or management, among others — or work as an auditor, comptroller, consultant, tax accountant, forensic accountant, or budget analyst, and build toward a CFO role. Your accounting degree opens doors in every kind of business, since you'll graduate with the language and tools successful organizations require. Our graduates are recruited by regional and international accounting firms, corporations, banks and financial institutions, and agencies including the IRS.

Becoming a licensed CPA can open doors that a degree alone doesn't — only a licensed CPA can sign audit opinions for public companies, and many senior accounting and finance roles, including Controller and CFO positions, require or strongly prefer the license.
