Policies in the Department of Accounting

The Department of Accounting doesn't maintain a formal handbook, but every student is expected to know and follow the department's academic policies — starting with the Student Code of Conduct and Honor below.

University & Student Policies

As a UL Lafayette student, you're also bound by university-wide policies, in addition to anything specific to Accounting:

Accounting Student Code of Conduct and Honor

Every student enrolled in the BSBA in Accounting, the M.S. in Accounting, or any course offered by the Department of Accounting accepts personal responsibility to uphold and defend high ethical standards in all academic endeavors, and to promote an atmosphere of integrity in which all individuals may flourish. As a student, you commit to the highest standard of professional behavior, ethics, and conduct in dealings with others, both inside and outside the classroom, including:

  1. Showing respect for faculty, staff, fellow students, and non-university personnel, including recruiters, employers, and other professionals.
  2. Respecting the property and reputation of UL Lafayette, the department, and its faculty, students, and staff.
  3. Never engaging in conduct that may delay or disrupt class — including talking to other students, using electronic devices, reading non-class materials, sleeping, or any activity not authorized by the instructor.
  4. Addressing grievances in a professional, constructive, and appropriate manner.
  5. Never posting or reproducing class documents — including instructor postings to Moodle, publisher-provided materials such as test banks, department-provided materials such as the Comprehensive Case, and completed or uncompleted coursework or projects — without written permission from both the instructor and the department head.
  6. Never using recording devices of any kind in class, per departmental policy.
  7. Never using student computers, tablets, or similar devices in class, per departmental policy.
  8. Never presenting another person's ideas or work as your own — plagiarism is fraud.
  9. Never attempting to gain an unfair advantage over others in the UL Lafayette community through unethical means.
  10. Abiding by the University Code of Student Conduct, the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration Code of Conduct, this Department of Accounting Student Code of Conduct and Honor, the Department of Accounting Exam Policy, course syllabi, and all other University, College, and Department policies on academic integrity and conduct.
  11. Notifying your instructor or department head in a timely manner when another student violates any of the above.

Failure to abide by this code will result in disciplinary action, determined under University, College, and Department guidelines. Consequences can range from a zero on the assignment or exam, to an F in the course, to expulsion from the department, college, or university.
