Author, lecturer, creative writer, and Ernest J. Gaines Scholar, Dr. Herman Beavers (Africana Studies and English) is the honored speaker for the fifth annual Ernest J. Gaines Lecture. The lecture will be held on Oct. 12, 2017 in the Gaines Center Hallway, which is located on the 3rd floor of the Dupré Library, at 11 a.m.
Dr. Beavers is a well respected scholar and writer, whose body of work includes Wrestling Angels into Song, which looks at the work of Dr. Ernest J. Gaines and James Allen McPherson, and poems and short stories in MELUS, The Langston Hughes Colloquy, Versadelphia, Cleaver Magazine, and The American Arts Quarterly. In addition to an impressive number of titles, throughout his career, Dr. Beavers has also been on a number of esteemed panels, including the NEH funded "Ernest J. Gaines and the Southern Experience" summer institute.
